Question

Work done on a body of mass 10 kg to lift it through a certain height is 490 J. Calculate the height through which the body is lifted.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data and assumptions

Mass of the body is, m=10kg

Work done to lift the body to a height is, W=490J

Assume the gravity is, g=9.8m/s2.

Step 2: Calculating the lifted height

We know, work done is given as,

W=mgh

where, m is mass, g is acceleration due to gravity and h is height.

Substituting the known values in W=mgh, we get,

490=10kg×9.8m/s2×hh=49098h=5m

Therefore, the height through which the body is lifted is 5m.
