Let us divide $556$ by $5$

Step 1 : Divide $5$ hundreds by $5$, i.e, $5÷5=1$

Write $1$ in hundreds place of quotient and write the product $5$ below the hundreds place of dividend, $5-5=0$

Step 2 : Bring down $5$

$5÷5=1$

Write $1$ in tens place of quotient and write the product $5$ below the tens place of dividend, $5-5=0$

Step 3 : Bring down $6$

$6÷5$, which can not be divided

$5$ is the multiple of $5$, which smaller than $6$

Write $1$ in ones place of quotient and write the product $5$ below the ones place of dividend, $6-5=1$

we get,
