• The dependent population of India comprises of 35.7% of its population in the age group of 0 –14 years and 4.8% in the 65 years and above age group. Rest of the 59.5% of the population falls in the 15 to 64 years of age group or the working-age group. The USA with 27.3% has the least number of dependent population.
• In the world as a whole, 60.7% of the population is in the working-age group whereas in rich countries the percentage of population in the age group of 15 to 64 years is 66.8. In our neighbouring country China, 66.7% of the population in the working-age group.
