Solution

Laboratory Preparation of Ammonia NH3 from Ammonium Chloride(NH4Cl):

  • In the laboratory, ammonia is prepared by heating a mixture of ammonium chloride and dry slaked lime (calcium hydroxide)(CaO).\
  • In this reaction, one mole of ammonium chloride reacts with one mole of calcium hydroxide to form one mole of CaCl2 and two moles of water vapors and ammonia each.

The balanced chemical equation is:

2NH4Cl(aq)+Ca(OH)2(s)HeatCaCl2(aq)+2H2O(l)+2NH3(s)
