Question

Write a balanced chemical equation for the following:

Ammonium hydroxide is added to Ferrous Sulphate solution.

Open in App
Solution

When Ammonium hydroxide(NH4OH) is added to the solution of Ferrous Sulphate(FeSO4) then it produce Iron hydroxide(Fe(OH)2) and Ammonium sulphate((NH4)2SO4).

Balanced chemical equation:

2NH4OH(aq)Ammoniumhydroxide+FeSO4(aq)FerroussulphateFeOH2(s)Ironhydroxide+(NH4)2SO4(aq)Ammoniumsulphate

From the above reaction, we observed that dirty green precipitate of FeOH2 is formed. This reaction is a double displacement reaction.
