When glucose is heated with conc. $H_{2} S O_{4}$ , the follwing dehydration reaction takes place-
$C_{6} H_{12} O_{6} D-Glucose conc. H_{2} S O_{4} - ------ \to C_{6} H_{6} O_{3} Hydroxyl methyl furfural + 3 H_{2} O$
