Question

Write a brief account on the chloroplast pigment ?

Open in App
Solution

Chlorophyll is a pigment that gives plants their green colour which is present in the chloroplast. Chlorophyll absorbs light most strongly in the blue portion of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as the red portion. Conversely, it is a poor absorber of the green portions of the spectrum, which it reflects, producing the green colour of chlorophyll-containing tissues. Two types of chlorophyll exist in the photosystems of green plants: chlorophyll a and b.
Chlorophyll has a tadpole like structure. It has a porphyrin head and a phytol tail.
