Write a brief note on National Literacy Mission.

In 1988, National Literacy Mission (NLM) was initiated to promote adult education. A women's education council was also established to promote women's education in our country. The NLM has been recast as 'Saakshar Bharat' with a central focus on female education. The programme covers all citizens in the age group of 15 years and above.
