The Rashtrakutas belonged to the Deccan region. The Deccan is the area to the north of the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers.
Dantidurga was the founder of the Rashtrakuta dynasty in 742 A.D. in modern Maharashtra. After Dantidurg's death Krishna-I, Govinda-II, Druva, Govinda-III, Amoghvarsha, and Krishna-III were the rulers of this dynasty.
The Rashtrakutas were patrons of art and Education. One example of this patronage was the Kailash Temple at Ellora built by the ruler Krishna-I.
Also, King Amoghavarsha was a good poet.
In terms of trade, they had trade relations with other countries.
Even though Hinduism was the most popular religion, they patronised Shaivism and Vaishnavism and encouraged Jainism, Buddhism, and Islam.
