Durga Puja, or the annual celebration of the Hindu goddess Durga, is one of India’s grandest festivals.
Durga Puja is a Hindu celebration of the Mother Goddess and the victory of the revered warrior Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura.
It is particularly popular and traditionally celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura and the country of Bangladesh, and the diaspora from this region, and also in Mithilanchal regions of Bihar and Nepal.
It is a multiple-day celebration varying from 6 days in some parts of the country to 10 days in others.
The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar.
