Solution

Answer:

Air pollution is the introduction of toxins into the air which are dangerous to humans and the environment, including chemicals, particles, biomolecules, and so on. In the atmosphere, there is a certain proportion of gases present. A rise or decrease in the structure of such gases is hazardous to life. This gaseous imbalance has led to a rise in the temperature of the earth, that is known as global warming.

Various types of air pollutants

Two types of air pollutants exist:

Primary Pollutants – As primary pollutants, the contaminants that specifically cause air pollution are identified.

Example – A primary pollutant is sulphur-dioxide emitted from factories.

Secondary Pollutants – As secondary pollutants, the pollutants produced by the intermingling and action of primary pollutants are identified.

Example – A secondary pollutant is smog, created by the intermingling of smoke and fog.

Cause of air pollution

The causes of air pollution can either be natural or man-made.

  • Fossil fuel combustion drives out a lot of greenhouse gases. The greatest sources of carbon emissions are automobiles and industries.
  • Agricultural processes One of the most common by-products of agricultural activities is ammonia, if inhaled, it is highly poisonous.
  • During mining operations, hazardous chemicals are released that can adversely affect the health of the workers and the people who live around.
  • Air pollution may also occur indoors like radon gas is colourless and odourless and cancer causing.
