Babur (1483-1530) was the founder of the Mughal empire in India. He was born in the Fergana valley in present day Uzbekistan. He became the king of Fergana in 1495, but soon lost his kingdom due to rebellion. He fled to Kabul and conquered the city in 1504. From Kabul, he invaded the Delhi Sultanate in 1524. He defeated Ibrahim Lodi, who was then the Sultan of north India, in 1526 in the First Battle of Panipat. He ruled northern India as the first Mughal emperor till his death in 1530.
