Some important commercial crops in India are tea, coffee, rubber and cotton. Tea is grown primarily in Assam, Darjeeling region of West Bengal and the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu. Coffee is grown in the Nilgiris and the Coorg district of Karnataka. Kerala is the largest producer of rubber. Cotton is grown in the black soil regions of the Deccan. These commercial crops form an important part of the Indian economy. They provide direct employment to workers in plantations and also provide raw material to important industries.
