Write a note on phyllotaxy.

Phyllotaxy is the pattern of arrangement of leaves on the stem or branch of a plant. There are mainly three types:
  1. Alternate: When a single leaf arises from each node, in an alternate manner. Examples, china rose, sunflower, etc.
  2. Opposite: In this type, pairs of leaves arise at each node and lie opposite each other. Examples, calotropis, guava etc,
  3. Whorled: More than two leaves arise at each node and are arranged in the form of a whorl. In nerium, devil tree, etc.
