Sorting in the wool production is done by sorters. Their job is risky as sometimes they get infected by a bacterium, anthrax, which causes a fatal blood disease called sorter’s disease.
It can also be defined as pulmonary anthrax in humans, caused by inhaling the spores of Bacillus anthracis, which may contaminate wool fleece.
Anthrax is also known by other names such as malignant oedema, charbon, splenic fever, and Cumberland disease.
Such risks faced by workers in any industry are called occupational hazards
