  • The Bahmani kings made immense contributions in the field of education.
  • Sultan Ala-ud-din Hasan Shah founded a school to educate his sons. Sultan Muhammad I opened institutions to educate children of the noble families in the art of soldiery. Later, his successors founded residential schools in Gulbarga, Bidar, Dualatabad, and Kandahar.
  • Mahmud Gawan established the world-famous Madrasa in Bidar, which had a large library containing a collection of 3000 manuscripts. This is illustrative of the importance given to scholarship and education by Mahmud Gawan.
