The mangrove forests are found in coastal areas under the influence of tides. The Delta areas with clayey soil and saline water during tides give rise to the mangrove forests. They are formed due to mixing of fresh water with seawater and where sediment is composed of accumulated deposits of mud.The plants of these areas have adapted themselves to both the freshwater and saline water and to the sticky mud and silt. The roots of these plants are submerged under water.
The mangrove forests are found in Ganga- Brahmaputra Delta which are known as Sunderbans and deltas of the river Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri on east coast of India.
