Solution

The lungs are situated within the thoracic cavity of the chest. Each lung is enclosed within a pleural sack which allows the inner and outer walls to slide over each other while breathing takes place, without much friction. The superficial layer lines the wall of the thoracic cavity and is called the parietal pleura, deep layer, the visceral pleura cover the lungs themselves.
