Solution:

Anglo-Mysuru wars were a series of four battles between the British and the Kingdom of Mysuru. The wars were fought by Hyder Ali and later by his son Tipu Sultan.
  • In the third Anglo Mysore war, the British laid siege in Srirangapatna, the capital city of Tippu Sultan. Having no other option, Tippu Sultan had to sign a peace treaty.
  • According to the treaty, Tippu Sultan had to surrender half of his kingdom to the British. He was also asked to pay 330 lakh to the British as compensation.
  • The British took two sons of Tippu Sultan as hostage until the dues were cleared. Humiliated with the treaty, Tippu Sultan soon waged another war against the British.
