A Scorched Earth Policy is a military strategy that aims to destroy any such thing that might prove to be useful for the enemy. While a military is withdrawing from a location or advancing through it. This practice can be carried out in enemies territory or in home territory. On 22 June, 1941 Hitler invaded Russia and at this moment the Russian winter began early that year which stalled the German army to a stop at the gates of Moscow. The leader of Soviet Union Stalin evacuated the city. Russian followed the Scorched Earth Policy, they abandoned the villages and set fire to crops, roads, railways, factories and even houses, so that German could not gain anything and after a term of 5 months the German were able to capture the empty city of Moscow. After suffering a crushing defeat in Russia they retreated in January 1944.
