Station House Officers are the officers in charge of a particular police station. Working under the guidance of higher ranking officers such as the Superintendent of Police, they typically hold the rank of Inspector or Sub-Inspector. They are responsible for documenting reports and complaints about crimes, fights, accidents and injuries within the specified jurisdiction prior to investigation. SHOs prepare FIRs without which the station cannot initiate the investigation process.
