Agriculture:

It is one of the world’s widespread practices and is dependent on the condition of the land, the climatic characteristics, along with the irrigation services available.

Types of agriculture in India:

  1. Shifting farming: It is the process of cultivation of crops by shifting the field for maintaining the fertility of the soil. Example - Rice, millets
  2. Subsistence farming: It is the kind of agriculture in which the crops are cultivated only for personal use and not for trade. Example - Tapioca, yam, maize
  3. Dry farming: In this method, crops are cultivated without irrigation only by annual precipitation. Example - Pumpkins, grapes
  4. Terrace Agriculture: It is the process of growing crops on slopes made on mountain cliffs or hills. Example - Barley, olives
  5. Intensive Agriculture: It is the large-scale agriculture done in large land areas using a large crew of labor. Example - Soybean, tomato
  6. Commercial Agriculture: It is the opposite of subsistence farming where crops are grown for trade purposes. Example - Cotton, tobacco
  7. Plantation Agriculture: In this method, only a single crop is cultivated throughout the year. Example - Cardamom, cashew nuts
  8. Extensive Agriculture: It is the opposite of intensive agriculture in which a smaller crew of labor is used for growing crops in smaller areas.Example- Wheat, barley
  9. Wet Agriculture: It is the type of agriculture in which water is available throughout the year for irrigation. Example - grams, peas

Some other forms of agricultural practices include:

Apiculture

  1. The care and maintenance of honey bees for the manufacturing of honey and wax are called apiculture or beekeeping.
  2. Bees are raised commercially in apiaries, a region where it is possible to locate a lot of beehives.

Animal Husbandry

  1. Animal husbandry is concerned with the production and care of domestic animals.

Dairy Farming

  1. In dairy farming, milk is produced over an extended period of time and then processed to produce dairy goods, including curd, cheese, yogurt, butter, and other dairy products.
  2. It requires the management of dairy animals such as cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, etc.
