Tundra ecosystems:

  1. These are devoid of trees and are covered with snow for most of the year.
  2. These are mostly found in cold climates and in areas where rainfall is scarce. Example- Polar regions

Features of tundra ecosystem:

  1. It usually has a long cold winter and a very short hot summer.
  2. The ecosystem is extremely windy with high humidity and less rainfall.
  3. The temperature here goes below freezing point at night times. During the day, the temperature still permits the growth of plants.
  4. The major nutrients found here are phosphorus and nitrogen.
  5. The phosphorus is mostly produced by precipitation, whereas from the biochemical process, nitrogen is produced.
