Open in App
Solution

Vegetative propagation:

  1. Vegetative propagation is a type of asexual reproduction in which new plants develop from the vegetative parts of the plants.
  2. The vegetative parts of the plants are stems, roots and leaves from which new plants develop directly.

Vegetative propagation in leaves:

  1. In Bryophyllum and Begonia, the vegetative propagation occurs through the leaves.
  2. In Bryophyllum, the buds develop from the leaf margin or the notches present around the margin.
  3. The adventitious buds developing around the edges of the leaf slowly develop to form small plantlets.
  4. As the leaf falls on the ground, the plantlet reaches the soil and it develops into a new plant.
  5. Therefore, new Bryophyllum plants develop from the leaves through vegetative propagation.
