Write a pair of co-prime numbers and find their H.C.F. What do you observe?

Open in App
Solution

Co-prime Numbers are those numbers which have only one common factor.

Let us consider a pair of numbers i.e., 5 and 6.

Now if we prime factorise 5 and 6 we get,

5=1×5

6=1×2×3

From the prime factorisation of 5 and 6 we see that they have only one factor in common i.e., 1.

Thus we can say that 5 and 6 have H.C.F equal to 1. Such a pair of numbers is called Co-prime Numbers.

Hence, we observed that if we write a co-prime number and take its H.C.F, it is always equal to 1.
