IUCN or The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources is a union that administers the conservation status of plants and animals across the globe. IUCN maintains a list of endangered species called IUCN red list of Threatened Species which divides the endangered species into nine categories based on the criteria like area of geographical distribution, population size and rate of decline. The categories listed in the IUCN Red list are:
1. Extinct
2. Near threatened
3. Extinct in the wild
4. Least concern
5. Critically endangered
6. Data deficient
7. Endangered
8. Not evaluated
9. Vulnerable
