Solution

Instructions:
Explain the location, extent, divisions, and well-known features of the eastern coastal plains (point-wise)

Solution:
  • The east coast is situated at the eastern shores of the Indian peninsula, facing the Bay of Bengal.
  • The coast extends from Mahanadi in Odisha to Kavari deltas in Tamil Nadu.
  • The east coast is much wider and has a larger surface compared to the west coast.
  • The northern part of the coast is called the Northern circar, while the southern part of the coast is called the coromandel coast.
  • The rivers such as the Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri form deltas in the east coast before they drain into the Bay of Bengal. These deltas are very fertile lands, used for agricultural purposes.
  • There are various well known lakes, such as Lake Chilika, that are found along the east coast.
