Dear student,
An electron is a negatively charged subatomic particle. Electrons exists in the various energy levels of an atom. They can be free or bound to the nucleus of an atom. The charge of the electron is 1.6x10-19C which is denoted by symbol e. The mass of an electron at rest is 9.11x10-31kg which is denoted by symbol me. In solids, electrons are responsible for conducting current. Interaction between the electrons of atoms and molecules leads to chemical reactions. Sharing of electrons between atoms leads to the formation of chemical bonds.
