Open in App
Solution

Glycolysis:

  1. Glycolysis is a metabolic mechanism that allows both aerobic and anaerobic respiration to occur.
  2. Glucose is transformed to pyruvate in this mechanism.
  3. Pyruvate is a six-membered ring molecule that forms when carbohydrates are broken down into sugars.
  4. It's a multi-step process that takes place in the cytoplasm of both animal and plant cells.
  5. Glycolysis happens in the cell's cytoplasm.
  6. It produces ATP without using oxygen, however it can also happen in the presence of oxygen.
  7. It uses enzymatic processes to break down one molecule of glucose (a 6-carbon molecule) into two molecules of pyruvate (a 3-carbon molecule).
  8. Glucose becomes the cell's primary fuel after it has been broken down.
