Question

Write a short note on mitochondria, ribosome and plastids

Open in App
Solution

Plastids : these are one of the strange organelles of the plant cell. These are used for imparting different colors to the plant cell.
These are of 3 types
Chloroplast: contains green pigment called chlorophyll
Chromoplast: other pigments except green
Leucoplast: contains various fats carbohydrates and food for the cell

Mitochondria : these are present in both plant and animal cell. These are organelles which have there own ribosomes thus called strange organelles. These are double membrane structures. Outer member is smooth whereas the inner membrane is highly folded where the generation of atp takes places. These folds are called cristae.

Ribosome

Ribosomes are important cell organelles. A ribosome is a large complex of RNA and protein.Ribosomes are found in all living cells.A ribosome is a mixture of protein and RNA that starts its formation in the nucleolus of a cell. The job of the ribosome is to make new proteins.Ribosomes are usually found in the rough endoplasmic reticulum, but can also be found throughout the cytoplasm.

Main function of Ribosomes-:

1.Ribosomes are protein macromolecules made from complexes of RNAs and found within all living cells.

2.Their function in a cell is in protein synthesis where they pair each codon of the messenger RNA strand with the appropriate amino acid.
