Polymorphism:

  1. The occurrence of more than one kind or form of organisms of the same species that exist together in one locality is known as polymorphism.
  2. In coelenterates, animals exist in two forms:
    1. Polyp- Asexual form or phase.
    2. Medusa- Sexual form of phase.
  3. Polyp leads a sedentary and colonial life.
  4. Medusa is a free-living form.
  5. Sea anemones and hydra are the most common examples of polyp form whereas medusa is found in the group called “sea jellies” (jellyfish).
