RTI (Right to information) is an act aimed to ensure transparency and accountability in the governance of the country.
Under the Right to Information, people have the deserved authority to question various government programs and the government is expected to answer the questions.
Any Indian citizen can file an RTI, without any legal help. Its a very simple procedure.
Tamil Nadu was the first state to implement Freedom of Information Act, 1997 and Rajasthan was the first state to officially pass the RTI in the year 2000.
This act was passed in 2005 in the Parliament, meaning now it was applicable to all states of India.
