  • Roots are the plant parts present below the soil. Roots help in anchoring the plant to the soil and absrob water and minerals from the soil. Since they do not receive direct sunlight, they cannot perform photosynthesis. (1 Mark)
  • Root systems are of 2 types- tap root system and fibrous root system. Tap root system consists of a main root from which lateral branches of roots emerge. It is commonly found in beetroot, carrot etc. (1 Mark)
  • Fibrous root system consists of thin, moderately sized roots. It is commonly found in grasses, wheat, rice etc. (1 Mark)
