The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established 8 December 1985. It currently comprises of eight Member States: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan joined the organization in 2007. It was established with the objective of promoting economic development and regional integration. It is headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal.
