• The Mauryan empire had its capital at Pataliputra.
• The administration of the empire was divided into four regions, namely east, west, north and south regions for sake of convenience. Each region also had its own capitals at Tosali, Ujjayini, Suvarnagiri and Takshashila respectively.
• The King was advised by the Council of Ministers on administrative matters.
• There were many other officials at different levels and an efficient intelligence system was also present.
