The Andes are one of the four physical features of South America.

• Location: It runs north to south along the western coast of south America.
• Formation: The Andes are and example of fold mountains with a length of 7200 km they become world’s longest mountain range.
• Features of the Andes: The Andes are also called as the Andean Cordillera because there are multiple mountain ranges that run parallel to each other in the Andes. The features of the Andes include:
  • Intermontane plateaus: plateaus surrounded by mountains - The bolivian plateau.
  • Lakes: Lake Titicaca .
  • Volcanoes: The range falls in the Ring of fire and hence as active volcanoes. For example, Mt. Cotopaxi.
