The Cripps mission headed by Sir Stafford Cripps came to India in 1942 to break the political deadlock. The following proposals were made under the Cripps Mission:
Provision for the protection of religious and racial minorities to be made.
Princely states could either join the Indian Union or remain free.
During WWII, the Viceroy and his Executive Council would oversee the defence of the country.
The government wanted the Indian leaders to cooperate till the new constitution was prepared.
Dominion Status to be granted to India after WWII.
Constituent Assembly to be set up to draft the Constitution of India.
The Constitution would be accepted by the British government.
The Province could draft their own constitution if it disagreed with the constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly.
