It only contributes to 1% of the volume of the earth. The layer extends to around 30-40km around the earth in total and the temperature is also the coldest when compared to the core.
The crust is divided into two types: The continental crust and the oceanic crust.
The Continental crust: The portion of the crust that holds the continents is the continental crust. It is around 35km long. The continental crust is made up of mainly two minerals, Silica and Magnesium and is also called the SiMa layer.
The Oceanic crust: The portion of the crust that holds the oceans is the oceanic crust. It is around 5km long. The oceanic crust is made up mainly of two minerals, Silica and Aluminum and is also called the SiAl layer.
