Solution:

The Estates General
  • May 1789: Louis XVI summoned the Estates General.
  • Representatives of the Third Estate walked out and declared themselves a national assembly.
Storming of the Bastille
  • The king feared more upheaval and wanted to employ foreign troops to kill people.
  • People rose in protest on 14th July 1789 in Paris.
  • They stormed the Bastille prison and set free all the prisoners.
March to Versailles
  • People suffered as the prices of food and bread were too high.
  • The women of Paris marched to Versailles to demand bread from the king.
The Constitution of 1791
  • The National Assembly framed the first constitution.
  • It provided for a constitutional monarchy and limited the powers of the king.
Paris Commune
  • The National Assembly did not meet the expectations of the commoners. Thus, the Paris Commune was established.
  • It emerged as a rival of the National Assembly.
The National Convention
  • To suppress the growing tension, the National Convention came into being.
