Write a short note on the flora of tropical rainforests.

Tropical rainforests:

  1. Tropical rainforests are located 10⁰ north and south of the equator.
  2. These areas have a tropical rainforest climate in which there is no dry season.
  3. This type of forest is found in Central America, South America and the Amazon basin.
  4. In India, such forests are found on the west coast and in the north-eastern regions of India.

Flora:

  1. Evergreen trees with broad leaves form the major vegetation of tropical rainforests.
  2. Trees are tall and form the canopy layer.
  3. Orchids, fern, rubber trees, rosewood trees, mahogany trees, palm trees, bamboo trees and cycads, along with spice trees such as clove and cinnamon are found in these forests.
