Monochromatic light

Open in App
Solution

Monochromatic light:

  1. Monochromatic lights are a single wavelength light, where mono refers to one and chroma signifies color.
  2. The visible light of the narrowband wavelength is classified as monochromatic light.
  3. It includes wavelengths within the shortest wavelength range.
  4. These lights are distinguished by their intensity or brightness, the direction of propagation, color, and polarization states.

Pure Spectrum: A spectrum in which the dispersion is highly discriminative so that at each point the light is practically monochromatic.

Diagrammatic representation of dispersion of white light passing through the prism:

  1. The above diagram shows a pure spectrum being projected through a dispersive element to produce monochromatic lights.
  2. Prism is one of the dispersive elements that can be used to produce pure spectrums.
