Solution:
A grid is a set of horizontal and vertical lines with alphanumeric codes for defining a location on a map.

The grid consists of Northings and Eastings.
The vertical lines numbered from west to east are called Eastings. Their value increases, moving rightwards.
Whereas the horizontal lines numbered from south to north are called Northings. Their value increases moving upwards. The points at which Northings and Eastings of the grid intersect are called the coordinates.

The grid system has two methods:
  • 4 figure grid system
  • 6 figure grid system
