The literature of this period was mostly comprised of religious writings. The Kings of that era supported education and encouraged people to read and write. The language used in poetry, books, plays and stories were Sanskrit, Prakrit, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu etc. Examples of some famous literature of that period were epics like Naishadacharitra, which was the story of Nal and Damyanti written by Shriharsh and Shishupalvadha, an Epic describing the killing of Shishupal by Krishna. The most famous poetry of this period was Kumarpal Charita and Siddhem Shedhanushashan which were written by Hemchandracharya. And the famous plays of this era was Uttarramcharita written by Bhavbhuti and Hitopdesh by Pandit Narayana.
