Explain the importance of water and its uses
Solution:
Water for agriculture:
Water reaches the root zone of crops either through rainfall or some process of irrigation. There’s a capacity of the soil to store moisture.
If there’s excess water, such as a flood, and this can’t percolate below it would damage the roots. On the other hand, in a drought situation, if there isn’t enough moisture in the root zone, the crops will wither/ wilt.
Water use for domestic purpose and for animals:
Water used for drinking, cooking, washing, cleaning and for animals is vital.
Planning for this component is needed to increase the availability so that a minimum amount is made available to all, irrespective of their income.
Water for industrial use:
Water is required for manufacturing processes and this demand often competes with domestic and agricultural uses.
This needs to be considered as this conflict is on the increase. The challenge areas facing industrial use are recycling of water and control of pollution.
