Bryophytes:

  1. These are green, photosynthetic, and thalloid structures.
  2. They are usually found in damp places or around aquatic habitats.
  3. The plant body is differentiated into roots, stems, and leaves.
  4. Rhizoids are present in place of roots, for the purpose of absorption and attachment.
  5. They possess motile sperms and thus need water for the process of fertilization.
  6. This is the reason they are also known as amphibians of the plant kingdom.
  7. Vascular bundles are not developed in these plants.
  8. They are cryptogams i.e they do not produce any seeds.
  9. They propagate through spores.
