Write about cellular autonomy in unicellular organisms?

Open in App
Solution

The unicellular organism is made up of a single cell which acts as an autonomous or independent unit. There is no division of labour. It stores a set of instructions to carry out all the activities for its survival and replication as necessary except for sexual reproduction. It does not depend upon any other cell for any function, material or information. A single cell can do following functions in unicellular organisms independently. Reproduction by cell division, use of enzymes and other proteins for metabolism and production of suitable energy molecules through respiration. Breaking down food particles into macromolecules. Building cell components. Disposable of cell waste through lysosomes.
