Cells:

  1. Cells are the basic, structural and functional unit of life.
  2. They form the basis of organisms.
  3. All organisms are made up of cells.
  4. Some organisms are made up of only one cell i.e unicellular and some are made up of many cells i.e multicellular.
  5. In multicellular organisms, cells combine together to form tissues and organs, necessary for the functioning of any organism.

Cell sizes can vary from very small to large in different organisms:

  1. The smallest cell is mycoplasma, which is about 0.0001 mm in diameter.
  2. Some cells are as large as Caulerpa taxifolia, which is about 6-12 inches tall.
  3. Eggs are also cells that are large enough to be touched.
  4. The largest egg(unicellular) is the ostrich egg, which is about 45 cm in circumference.
