Magadha was the one of the most powerful empires during 600 BC to 400 BC. Magadha witnessed two great rulers from the Haryanka dynasty, namely Bimbisara and his son, Ajatasatru.
Magadha grew most powerful during the rule of Bimbisara from 543 to 492 B.C. Bimbisara made Rajagriha as his capital city which lies near Nalanda in present day. Aftaer Bimbisara, his son, Ajatasatru expanded the kingdom of Magadha by conquering Kasi, Kosala and Vaisali. He ruled from 492 to 460 B.C. and made Pataliputra as his capital city that is called Patna in present day.
