Solution

Infectious illness prevention can be accomplished in two ways:

1. Preventing infectious illnesses in general:

(i) Sanitation: The main sources of disease-causing organisms are garbage heaps, dirty water, dusty foods, and flies. Diseases can be prevented by maintaining a sanitary environment.

(ii) Vector eradication: Vector-borne diseases can be avoided by maintaining a clean environment. Adult vectors should be destroyed using proper protocols, and vector breeding places should be eradicated.

(iii) Sterilization: The patient's surroundings as well as any items used by him or her should be sanitised. Wherever necessary, soap, phenyl, dettol, and antiseptic lotion can be utilised.

(iv) Isolation: A person with an infectious disease should be maintained in isolation to prevent others from contracting the condition.

(v) Education: People should be informed about infectious diseases so that they can protect themselves from them.

(vi) Proper (nutritious) and sufficient food: Having access to proper (nutritious) and sufficient food would help people stay healthy and resist infections.

2. Specific methods of infectious illness prevention:

  1. They have to do with a special characteristic of the immune system, which is responsible for fighting microbial infections.
  2. The immune system of the body reacts to the first time an infectious germ enters the body.
  3. It is then specifically remembered by the immune system. As a result, the following time the same microorganism infects the same person, the immune system responds with greater vigour and eliminates the infection faster than the first time.
  4. This is the foundation of the immunisation principle.
