Write an activity to show that matter is particulate in nature

Activity: Dissolution of salt in water

Procedure:
(a) Take a 100 ml beaker.

(b) Fill half the beaker with water and mark the level of water.

(c) Dissolve some salt with the help of a glass rod.

(d) Observe any change in water level.

Observation: The level of water remains the same and salt has now spread throughout the water. When we dissolve salt in water, the particles of salt get into the spaces between particles of water. This shows the particulate nature of matter.
